Our Story
How we got Started
Cents originally Providence as named by the founder Tony M. Mukelabai, it was the name that ran with us through our earlier business days back in college. Under Providence we had a number of ventures but one notable (as in still in use even today) product was the Phone Stand which had some success until it lost its “potency” and we had to keep moving.
One night out with one of my uncles we ran short on cash and we had to borrow some money from one of the lenders around, as the money hit my account i asked myself why I can’t do the same business but with better additional services, customer service, application process etc. the answer I got was nothing, no one was stopping me apart from me(my own perception) and just there and then the idea was born. I told my uncle about it and he agreed but said people lose money doing that because people are difficult when it comes to money (no doubt). So, I told myself if I remembered the idea the next morning and still felt the same way then I would pursue it and well…. let’s just say the rest is history.
FYI we tried to keep the name “Providence” but if you’ve gone through PACRA you know what happens, for those who have not gone through PACRA it’s sometimes a hustle to get your company name approved because there are a lot of people out there registering their company names and chances are you probably thought of the same name, in my case they simply stated “the name is not available” and you probably know what happened next.
Anyways, we started giving Loans from as little as K200 – K450, then K200 – K1000 and it kept on increasing until what it is today.
The drive that was based on offering a better service in every possible way led us to coming up with the Cents App and this Website. We will continue to innovate in order to serve you better. That’s our promise to you!
